Post-sentencing note regarding this website

There were some things brought up in court that we would like to address and explain. This may or may not be of any interest to most people but we are using this space to provide information about the concept of a support site, specifically this one. As always, if you have any questions feel free to email us.

Thank you,
Jenny

The idea to have a support website for Daniel was conceived of by his wife and a number of close friends in December 2005, immediately following Daniel's arrest. It launched on January 7, 2006 with content contributed by a number of people. We created this site in order to provide updates on Daniel's case, as well as find ways to generate awareness and support from people we may not know. Because there has been a very significant financial strain on Daniel and his family over the last year and a half AND because of people asking for ways they can help out, we provide a way for people to donate money online and off.

Many people felt upset and helpless after Daniel's arrest and wanted to be able to help their friend in any way possible. This was a concrete way. The events do not just generate donations, it's also about creating awareness. There are countless people in this world that want to know what's going on with this case, how it could affect them, or maybe just how it is affecting one person and his family and friends. We cannot fathom that there would be anything wrong with creating community events where friends and strangers alike gather to hear music, view art, share a meal or see a film, all while learning about what is happening with a valued member of the community.

This is a support website for an individual. The sole purpose, as one would assume, is to provide support to that person. There are hundreds, probably thousands, of support sites out there. Some have pictures, interviews, media, and often ways to help out financially.

We have created an email list that is easy to subscribe to in order to get people the updates they want quickly and easily. This is completely voluntary and 700 people (and growing) have signed up simply because they care. There is a lot of hard work that goes into maintaining this list and the site, as well as creating events for all to participate in. It is done by those who WANT to do something to hopefully make a difference.

We post legal documents or whatever information we have been privy to as soon as that happens and when it is legal and in compliance with court orders to do so. There has been no effort to conceal any of this information and Daniel's legal team has not sealed any documents. The only time we have not put things online is because we do not have access to this information or it is not intended for the public, as advised by our legal team. Daniel's words or statements have only appeared on this site after a hearing to shed light on what was said inside or outside of court. I think that anyone would agree that it is never advisable for someone in Daniel's position to be vocal regarding anything related to his case.

Although the following information is (and has been) available on other pages throughout the site, to make it easier we wanted to post everything here as well.
